California is leading the way in Cleantech!

From Our Executive Director
7 years ago I volunteered at CleanStart’s CleanTech Showcase. I worked months recruiting companies to exhibit their new technologies and watched an exciting ecosystem develop. Now, as Executive Director, during the last year I've had the opportunity to see companies that have grown since then like California Sunlight and Sierra Energy as well as new companies like Terzo Power and Arch Nexus. Cleantech is back with public and private support making California the world leader in this industry!

We can be optimistic about cleantech growth as venture funding for our industry has increased in California, now accounting for 45% of all cleantech investment in the U.S. And nationally, investment in cleantech is up 45% over last year. More than just investment numbers,

California, through programs like CleanStart, is leading the way in helping entrepreneurs accelerate to investible points. The California Energy Commission funded four Regional Energy Innovation Clusters, including BlueTechValley in the Central Valley, to which Sacramento based, AQUEOSO has applied. Additional effort comes from the Cleantech Open West Accelerator, where local companies Tenkiv and CarbonBLU graduated and presented at the regional finals. CarbonBLU even won the “People’s Choice” award!

With all this activity around cleantech in California, remember Sacramento is a leader too. From companies competing in accelerators to winning the Green City investment from Volkswagen, the Sacramento Region has made waves in 2017. Next year will be an even bigger year!
