Dear <<First Name>>,

In this month's issue, we celebrate Hank for winning the 2019 Sacramento Region Innovation award for Sustainability and SMUD for winning the Innovator of the Year. Our featured company for November is Scarlet Solar. We invite you to join us on November 12 for Green Drinks and on December 5 for our CleanStart Meetup which will focus on Rising Suns in Solar. And lastly, we've rounded up the latest clean tech news in our region so you can stay up-to-date! All the details are below.
2019 Sustainability Innovation Award Winner
Zachary Denning, CEO of Hank
At the 4th annual Sacramento Region Innovation Awards, AI-based startup Hank received recognition as the Sustainability Innovation of the year. Hank is saving building owners over 30% on their energy bills by tuning their existing energy management systems through close monitoring and machine learning. Also recognized for sustainability innovations were RePurpose Energy with its second-life EV battery-based solar energy storage systems and Sustainable Technology with its clever “Facet” rooftop mounts for solar PV panels. The Innovator of the Year award went to SMUD, who was recognized for its commitment to the Mobility Center, the Powerhouse Science Center, Hacker Lab, CleanStart and other organizations working to develop an innovation economy in the region, as well as its initiatives to address climate change. We are proud to have SMUD as one of our largest supporters! Read the full story on our blog.

Featured Company:
Scarlet Solar
Scarlet Solar's TiltPort increases the effectiveness of carport solar panels by smoothly and efficiently tracking the movement of the sun. A recent graduate of our CEO Crash course, Scarlet Solar is currently touring California to demonstrate their technology. The TiltPort uses a simple jackscrew to create a product that is significantly better than the competitions' products. Trackers are greatly limited by the weight of solar panels, so most available ones are not practical for large commercial carports. The conventional wisdom is that the cost versus benefit of tracking systems is not as appealing as just adding more stationary panels. But this is not the case with Scarlet Solar's solution. At their Rio Vista demo site, we observed the TiltPort tilting a massive solar array 30 feet in spite of the sweeping wind above us. It was impressive! Even more impressive, it generates a 40% increase in electricity production for the same cost of a stationary system and can support multiple panels. Read more on our blog.
