CleanStart Progress Report Launch Party was a Success!

Last week’s CleanStart Progress Report Launch was a success.  Companies from all over the area attend.

John Bissell talked about Micromidas becoming Origin Materials. We learned more about the sustainable Origins 100% bio-based water bottle and how they can save the world from 50 million tons of non-renewable PET. Origin Materials is now creating an 80% bio-based bottle with Nestle and Danone and received $40 million in investment.

Mike Hart introduced all the things going on at Sierra Energy’s campus. From their FastOX Gasifier being built to bringing the makers space Area 52 to life.  Mike gave us a peek at some of the obstacles and intricate systems Sierra Energy has had to fit FastOX into as Sierra Energy completes its commercial scale plant in Fort Hunter Liggett in Monterey County.

Arya Rashid and Joe Nguyen from Tenkiv answered questions on how they leveraged crowdfunding to raise money and increase Tenkiv’s visibility around the world. Not only did Tenkiv raise $50,000, they brought their solution to the attention of people around the world. They shared their key to a successful crowdfunding event –planning, planning, and planning!

The 2017 CleanStart Progress Report was also in the SacBee and Sacramento Business Journal.

Look to learn more about crowdfunding at our upcoming workshop on June 20!!

Sacramento Startup Profile: Arya Rashid Of Tenkiv

Clean water, most of us take it for granted. But 2.5 billion people across the globe lack access to clean water. In places like Afghanistan, lack of access to water sanitation leads to a 1 in 5 child mortality rate. But a local Sacramento clean tech startup has taken on the mission of democratizing sustainable water and energy access.

I sat down with Arya Rashid, head of marketing and PR at Sacramento clean tech startup Tenkiv, to talk about their humanitarian mission to tackle things like the water crisis, energy shortage, and climate change. Check out the interview in either video or audio formats below and then check out their KickStarter campaign and help them reach their goal and solve the clean water crisis in developing countries.

Sacramento Startup TENKIV Tackles the Global Clean Water Crisis

Sacramento Startup Tenkiv announced today that it is raising funds via its second Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to finish deployment of its revolutionary Solar Thermal Energy System. The company set out to raise $50,000 on Kickstarter to produce the first batch of water sanitation systems called the Tenkiv Nexus to be piloted in developing communities across Asia and Africa. Tenkiv’s latest innovation is going to allow humanitarian organizations to provide clean water to communities with little to no infrastructure for a fraction of the cost of existing technologies.
